Service Requirement Information
In order to be eligible for selection to the National Honor Society, you must complete a minimum of 30 hours of service and/or volunteer activities. Below are some ideas for you as you prepare to apply for membership in February of your junior year. Opportunities are available through your school, church, synagogue, scouting, town and civic organizations. Pick one and get involved!
·Participate in religious youth programs
oTeach younger students, participate in youth groups
oVolunteer for service projects, volunteer for summer camps programs
·Volunteer in an elementary school
oHelp with homework
oHelp with holiday events, fundraisers

- Volunteer at a summer camp or recreation program
- Example: Montvale Athletic Association; WoodcliffLake Basketball Association
- Volunteer with senior citizens
- Serve food and drinks
- Read, play games
- Provide services such as snow removal, leaf raking, shopping
- Example: Sunrise Assisted Living; INTERACT
- Work with the homeless
- Work at a homeless shelter
- Participate in a clothing or food drive
- Disaster relief
- Collect needed items
- Raise money
- Adopt a family or a school
- Help a charitable organization

- Civic engagement
