The Pascack Hills Chapter of the National Honor Society recently hosted a Community Service Information Fair. We hope to motivate and inspire students to become socially responsible and active in their community. The following organizations participated in the event. We created this wikispace in order to keep the conversation going. If you know of a worthy organization that accepts student volunteers, please feel free to add their information to our list.

As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded it services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.

" src="/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Images/anchor.gif">This is an Annual Memorial Day Baseball Tournament that raises money to help needy student athletes. Volunteers are needed for the concession stands, umpires, scorekeepers and other organizational work.

The Bergen County YJCC's is looking for individuals who are 8-18 years old who want to be buddies in an after school program and weekend programs for children on the autism spectrum. These cats are the offspring of free-roaming or abandoned household pets. C.A.T.S. practices TNR - trap, neuter and release - programs which control population and disease.


Environmental Club Advisor: Mr. Shields

This is a Pascack Hills organization that seeks to raise awareness of environmental issues. They actively promote recycling and energy conservation. Each year they collect old bicycles that are refurbished and sent to developing countries.


**Eva's Village**

Their mission is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, treat the addicted and provide medical care to the poor. Volunteers and donors are greatly appreciated and needed to support our programs with their time and compassion.

This organization provides companionship and friendship for special needs children in the community.


Footprints in the Sand

Footprints in the Sand is an organization that helps families whose lives have been affected by cancer through financial assistance, as well as helping them find resources for social, educational and psychological support services and programs.

Advisors: Ms. Macke & Mrs. Listro
FEA is a PH organization that provides various activities for children in the community. They plan story hour lessons and crafts at the Montvale Public library a few times a year, and participate in the lesson planning and teaching of the Star Lab at Memorial Elementary school for the third graders.

Gilda’s Club

Gilda’s club is a community of free support for everyone living with cancer, along with their families and friends. They run programs for adults, teens, and children. They also help in providing networking and support groups, workshops, lectures and social activities.


Interact Advisor: Mrs. White
Interact is a national high school organization whose mission is “Service Above Self”. Pascack Hills Interact works closely with The Park Ridge Rotary. Members participate in many community service projects each year including The Rotary Garage Sale, the annual Food Drive, Holiday Party for Homeless, Gift Baskets for Abused Women, and Bike Bergen.

Jewish Family Services of Bergen County JFS offers immigrant services, Kosher Meals on Wheels, job search assistance, counseling, and senior services.


Meaningful Movements provides exercise and dance classes for special needs children and adults, ages 12 – 20.


" src="/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Images/anchor.gif">Montvale Athletic League- MAL provides recreational sports for the kids of Montvale including baseball, basketball, football, softball, soccer, and cheerleading. They are totally dependent on volunteers to organize and coach teams.



Peers Educating Peers Advisors: Ms. Martinelli, Mr. Henry, Ms. Garruto
Peers Education Peers is a Pascack Hills organization that helps educate freshman about different struggles they might face in their high school careers. Peers Educating Peers also helps run activities for the freshman to help them meet new people and become more comfortable with their identity.


**Plaza Regency at Park Ridge Care Center** Sub-acute care, assisted living and nursing home for senior citizens.


Project Paterson Advisors: Mrs. Lutz& Ms. Mahaffey
Project Paterson is a Pascack Hills organization. Once a month, they go an elementary school in Paterson. They spend a great afternoon with the kids helping them with homework, and playing games. The students create bonds with the children and enjoy participating in the different sessions.


" src="/CuteSoft_Client/CuteEditor/Images/anchor.gif">Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge- RBAR is a “no-kill” shelter that is dedicated to the welfare of companion animals in our community. They protect the abandoned, abused and unwanted animals in their care by finding them kind and loving homes. They give their cats and dogs food, shelter, and medical treatment.



The Smile Factory The mission of The Smile Factory is to promote the art of clowning to juniors, ages 9-18. It is our desire to give them the skills and the confidence in this art so they can help others in their time of need with smiles, laughter and caring.


Teens Against Cancer
Advisors: Mrs. Conboy & Mrs. Rossi
TAC is a Pascack Hills High School organization that raises awareness about cancer in the school community. They participate in Relay for Life every spring, attend Gilda’s club, and help run Dig Pink. Each month TAC hangs up posters around the school to promote awareness for different types of cancers.


Tri-Boro Ambulance Squad - The Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps serves the citizens of Montvale, Park Ridge and Woodcliff Lake, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Volunteers carry pagers and respond to the emergency needs of the sick and injured. For membership information contact Gail Lazarus, Day Lieutenant.




WCL After School Tutoring - Woodcliff Lake Middle School offers tutoring sessions and enrichment courses after school and in the evening. Volunteers are always needed!

Youth Council for the Homeless Of Bergen County- The youth council coordinates many service activities including tutoring underprivileged children, preparing and serving food to the homeless at their walk-in dinner program, organizing and participating in fundraising events for “Camp Lots’a of Fun” and much more.
